Species‐specific acclimatization capacity of key traits explains global vertical distribution of seagrass species

چکیده
Aim The global vertical depth distribution of seagrass species remains poorly understood. Locally, the abundance and seagrasses is determined by light penetration, but at levels each has very distinct maximum distributional ranges, indicating that plant-associated traits must also influence their specific ranges. Seagrass-specific attributes, such as plant size or architecture, growth reproductive strategy physiological and/or morphological acclimatization potential, have been suggested to be responsible for this variety distributions. We investigate here whether these species-specific drive differences in seagrasses. Location Global. Time period Publications between 1982 2020. Major taxa studied Seagrasses (order Alismatales). Methods tested can predicted (1) rhizome diameter (a proxy size); (2) functional resilience (growth/reproductive strategy); (3) capacity. For last aspect, we used a systematic review followed meta-analytical approaches select key could potentially acclimatize extreme ranges across different Results found best explained capacity various traits, including saturation irradiance (physiological trait), leaves per shoot (morphological trait) above-ground biomass (structural trait). In contrast, our results indicate no predictive power growth/reproductive on Main conclusions Across globe, ability thrive wide range depths strongly linked organizational levels.

Global seagrass distribution and diversity: A bioregional model
Seagrasses, marine flowering plants, are widely distributed along temperate and tropical coastlines of the world. Seagrasses have key ecological roles in coastal ecosystems and can form extensive meadows supporting high biodiversity. The global species diversity of seagrasses is low (b60 species), but species can have ranges that extend for thousands of kilometers of coastline. Seagrass bioregi...
متن کاملConfronting species distribution model predictions with species functional traits
Species distribution models are valuable tools in studies of biogeography, ecology, and climate change and have been used to inform conservation and ecosystem management. However, species distribution models typically incorporate only climatic variables and species presence data. Model development or validation rarely considers functional components of species traits or other types of biologica...

متن کاملHigh-capacity quantum key distribution via hyperentangled degrees of freedom
Quantum key distribution (QKD) has long been a promising area for the application of quantum effects in solving real-world problems. However, two major obstacles have stood in the way of its widespread application: low secure key generation rates and short achievable operating distances. In this paper, a new physical mechanism for dealing with the first of these problems is proposed: the interp...

Large spatial variation was found in the abundance and species composition of ichthyofauna in seagrass meadows of Apalachee Bay and Indian River lagoon, Florida. Abundance of fishes was a direct function of aboveground seagrass biomass in Apalachee Bay where seagrass meadows were dominated by turtlegrass, 7Iwla""ia I".<ludinum, but the relationship did not hold across monospecific beds of T. t"...
